“Romeo & Juliet – The Musical”, from Universidade Lusófona, was the big winner of 2009’s edition of the ZON Creativity in Multimedia Awards

“Romeo & Juliet – The Musical”, from Universidade Lusófona, was the big winner of 2009’s edition of the ZON Creativity in Multimedia Awards.

The awards ceremony took place at Museu Berarardo, in Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisboa, on December 14th. Gabriela Canavilhas, Minister of Culture, Manuel Heitor, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Science Technology and Higher Education, Carlos Zorrinho, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Energy and Innovation and the UT Austin|Portugal Program and ZON Directors were all present at the event.

“Romeo & Juliet – The Musical”, a reinvention of the Shakespeare classic, took the big prize as well as the 1st place in Short features. The Portal TVU (tv.up.pt) and Jarbas won the 1st place in the Applications category. TVU, online since June 1st 2009, is part of a larger U.Porto project that also includes a Corporate TV constituted by a network of plasma screens distributed at the U.Porto campus. Jarbas is an ensemble project between the companies FYI and Enigma Virtual and works on the concept of a kitchen computer that simplifies housework.

The winners will now have access to a scholarship to develop work or study for a period of time at UT Austin.
