Three interns from TecMinho and Universidade de Aveiro pursued technology licenses and research in July and August 2010.
Pedro Silva of TecMinho arrived late in July to begin his second-phase internship as a part of the UTEN program. Emergent Technologies, a $20 million Austin-based venture capital fund exploring the Innovation Services Model, hosted him. Mr. Silva actively pursued targets for technology licensing within the US.
The IC2 Institute hosted Dr. Resende of Universidade de Aveiro. During his second-phase internship, he performed ongoing research in the field of technology transfer and innovation.
Marlos Silva, Universidade de Aveiro, arrived in Austin on July 22. He interned for six weeks with Emergent Technologies. Mr. Silva worked under the joint mentorship of senior leadership from Emergent along with Heath Naquin, UTEN program manager. Mr. Silva's internship primarily focused on the active identification of U.S.-based firms that might be suitable for Universidade de Aveiro technology bundling. In addition, Mr. Silva played a critical role in the actual creation of two separate U.S.-based venture-sponsored startups. Mr. Silva engaged in various pre-scheduled venture and industry meetings as a part of his internship with such institutions as: Austin Ventures, Venture Labs, Texo Ventures, Microsoft and others.
