UT-Portugal Student Composition Competition

Student composers from The University of Texas at Austin and from the composition program of any Portuguese higher education institution are invited to submit works for the UT-Portugal Concerts.

Student composers from The University of Texas at Austin and from the composition program of any Portuguese higher education institution are invited to submit works for the UT-Portugal Concerts to be held at the Butler School of Music (New Music Concerts, September 29 2009) and at Casa da Música in Porto, Portugal on October 14, 2009 during media arts festival Future Places.

Three pieces will be selected from the UT submissions and three pieces from the Portuguese submissions. These will form a single concert that will take place in both Austin and Porto in the Fall of 2009.

Additionally, one student from UT will be awarded a trip to the concert in Porto and a Portuguese student will be awarded a trip to the concert in Austin.

Submission Rules

1. Pieces must be under 15in in length.

2. Instruments include any combination of: fl/picc, cl/bcl, ob, bsn, tp, hn, tbn, vl (2), vle, vc, cb, pno, perc (2) with or without electronics (tape, live processing, synthesizer).

3. Package must include: 4 full scores, 1 set of parts plus a recording if available (MIDI simulations will be accepted).

4. All materials but be received by FRIDAY JULY 10, 2009.

5. One submission per student only.

6. Submissions that do not comply with these rules will not be considered.

7. Proof of enrollment (Portuguese students).

Eligibility

Open to all University of Texas at Austin students.

Open to all students enrolled in any composition program at a Portuguese higher education institution.
