Sharon Strover, UT Austin professor of Radio-Television-Film and  Director of the CoLab Digital Media program, will work on U.S. broadband policy

A note from Professor Sharon Strover:

As some of you are aware, I’ve been spending more time in Washington, D.C. recently, and increasingly have been involved with several groups working on telecommunications reform. Last summer I got to know the FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein, and we began to discuss my working on some of the projects he has shepherded. To make a long story short, I have decided to join Mr. Adelstein’s new offices at the Rural Utility Service in Washington, D.C. to help with the federal efforts to establish equitable broadband capabilities around more of the country, especially in rural regions. This will be a temporary assignment, and I do plan to return to UT in the fall. I am excited at the prospect of working with the new administration on the many fresh initiatives to improve equity and access in the communications domain. I expect that much of what I learn there will have applications to other countries and environments as more nations work to provide broadband access and Internet expertise to their populations.
