futureplaces 2011 now underway

The fourth edition of the futureplaces Digital Media Festival has begin in Porto, now through Saturday 22 October.

Described by the organizers as "99% free and 100% participatory," the labs at futureplaces ask the question: if digital media can do so much for global communication, knowledge and creativity, how can it contribute to local cultural development? The festival's labs, exhibitions and performances explore topics as diverse as the new meanings of "family," the expanding boundaries of copyright, DIY digital radio, the introduction of typography into public spaces, and live musical remix.
