Future Places at AMODA Showcase during SXSW Interactive

Three Portuguese artists presented a live remix of audio and video from the Future Places festival at a showcase during SXSW Interactive 2010 in Austin.

Heitor Alvelos, Anselmo Canha and João Cruz appeared at the AMODA Digital Showcase on Saturday, March 13 at Club DeVille in Austin.  Their performance consisted of a live digital manipulation of sound and images sampled at various Future Places workshops, concerts, talks and events.

The event was organized by the Austin Museum of Digital Art.

Heitor Alvelos has a PhD in media culture and serves as curator of the FuturePlaces festival. Alvelos has released multimedia work on the labels Touch (UK), Tapeworm (UK) and Crónica Electrónica (PT), including sound editions under the alias Autodigest, concerts and DJ showcases around Europe, as well as design and visuals for Biosphere and Fennesz. 

João Cruz is a PhD student in the UT Austin|Portugal Program, as well as a lecturer at the University of Porto. In addition, he is a skilled designer with a Masters in Multimedia Art. Finally, he is the editor and founder of the experimental electronic music label Crónica Electrónica.

Anselmo Canha has a Masters in Image Design from the University of Porto. He has also been a musician since 1985, serving as bass player, keyboard player, and programmer in many bands and projects. In addition, he is a designer and researcher focused on the Stop Shopping Center, a former shopping mall repurposed as a space for musical collaboration.
