Interdisciplinary research,
education and capacity building

11 Feb 2010

Dr. Derek Lackaff, an Austin-based postdoctoral fellow with the CoLab, will teach a semester-long graduate communication theory course in Porto this spring.

The course will provide an introduction to the theoretical foundations of the communication field and help prepare doctoral students to participate in the international community of communication scholarship. Lackaff will be on-site in Porto to meet the students and begin the class in March. The class will then be conducted via videoconference and other online platforms until the conclusion of the semester, when Lackaff will return to Porto.

Derek Lackaff is a Lecturer in Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin as well as a Postdoctoral Fellow working with the UT Austin | Portugal project in Digital Media. His research focuses on social media, social network analysis and methodologies, and the social psychology of communication technology use. His research has been published in Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication and elsewhere. He is interested in cross-disciplinary approaches to new media research, and looks forward to helping Portugal project participants develop collaborative research agendas.
