This is a joint program between the University of Porto and The New University of Lisbon, with the support of the University of Texas at Austin, aiming at specialized training in digital media.

ABOUT

The recent development of new applications in the area of digital media such as videogames, interactive content on the Web, interactive TV, video-on-demand, new educational software with high impact among the young generations and, more recently, the appearance of information, marketing and leisure content in mobile devices, demonstrate how important is the research on these new types of content and their close relationship with the technologies and their application. It is now very clear that universities must contribute through the creation of professionals in these areas at all levels, including the doctoral level. The final aim of the program is to train researchers, university teachers and innovation leaders in fundamental and applied areas associated with Digital Media.

Typical duration of the program is 4 years full time (240ECTS), including 1 year of courses and the three following years of research. The course is organized in the following specializations: (1) Audiovisual and Interactive Content Creation, (2) Technology, (3) Industry, Public and Markets.

Students registered in this program can apply to a Dual Degree at UT Austin.

Admission Requirements:
Are admitted as candidates for registration:
a) Holders of the master degree or legal equivalent in Digital Media or any area of the Social and Human Sciences;
b) Exceptionally, holders of a Bachelor’s Degree or legal equivalent, with a relevant academic or scientific curriculum in the above area, recognized by the Selection Jury, that certifies the capacity for the completion of the study cycle;
c) Exceptionally, holders of a school or scientific curriculum recognized by the Selection Jury, attesting to the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies.

Selection and Ranking Criteria:
The candidates will be ranked according to the score obtained in the Selection Process, based on individual merit. The following criteria are considered:

1. Candidates holding a Master’s Degree
a) Grading/Academic Master’s Degree notes 30%
b) Academic, Scientific and Professional Curriculum Vitae (will be valued the publications, the participation in projects, knowledge of languages, the scope of the professional experience, among others) 20%
c) Evaluation of a Proposed Research Project (according to the FCT model, written in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish; Knowledge of the state of the art, the bibliography, the writing quality, among others) 40%
d) Letter of Motivation, detailing the reasons why you want to follow the study program 10%

2. Candidates not holding a Master’s Degree (or with an ungraded grade)

a) Grading/Academic Bachelor’s Degree notes 30%
b) Academic, Scientific and Professional Curriculum Vitae (will be valued the publications, the participation in projects, knowledge of languages, the scope of the professional experience, among others) 20%
c) Evaluation of a Proposed Research Project (according to the FCT model, written in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish; Knowledge of the state of the art, the bibliography, the writing quality, among others) 40%
d) Letter of Motivation, detailing the reasons why you want to follow the study program 10%

3. Candidates not holding Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees
a) Academic, Scientific and Professional Curriculum Vitae (will be valued the publications, the participation in projects, knowledge of languages, the scope of the professional experience, among others) 50%
b) Evaluation of a Proposed Research Project (according to the FCT model, written in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish; Knowledge of the state of the art, the bibliography, the writing quality, among others) 40%
c) Letter of Motivation, detailing the reasons why you want to follow the study program 10%

The minimum classification resulting from the application of the previous criteria is 14 values.

Application Procedure:
The application must be instructed with the following elements, obligatorily:
a) Documents proving that the candidate meets the above conditions, in particular with an indication of the final master's degree classification. If it is not possible to present at the moment of the application the master's degree diploma, you must submit the certificate of qualifications with the list of the curricular units in which you obtained approval.
b) Updated Curriculum Vitae, including published or properly documented work.
After submission, the applicant must pay the emolument in accordance with the references indicated in the application form.

Emoluments and Tuition Fees
The emolument to be paid for the application is 51€ (fifty one euros), with no refund, if the candidate is excluded or is not selected.
The amount of the annual tuition for the academic year of 2016/2017, for national students who do not obtain scholarship from the FCT or other public or private institutions, is 2750€ (two thousand and five hundred and fifty euros).
