No âmbito do Programa UTAustin|Portugal, a FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia) abre concurso para:

Bolsas de Doutoramento Mistas, a decorrer em Portugal e na Universidade do Texas em Austin, nos seguintes programas académicos:

• Conteúdos Digitais Avançados (Advanced Digital Media), nas seguintes áreas:
  • Produção de Conteúdos Audiovisuais e Interactivo,
  • Tecnologia,
  • Jornalismo,
  • Indústria, Públicos e Mercados.
     
• Matemática, nas seguintes áreas:
  • Álgebra e Teoria de Números;
  • Análise Aplicada e Numérica;
  • Análise e Equações com Derivadas Parciais;
  • Geometria e Topologia;
  • Optimização;
  • Processos Estocásticos e Matemática Financeira;
  • Sistemas Dinâmicos.

Documentos requeridos para a inscrição

• Formulário de candidatura preenchido (em Inglês);
• CV Completo com a experiência académica e profissional (em Inglês);
• Certificado de Habilitações, com indicação do grau e data em que foi concedido;
• Mínimo duas (2) Cartas de Recomendação, que poderão ser escritas por professores ou empregadores (em Inglês);
• Carta de Motivação, explicitando as razões pelas quais o candidato pretende ingressar num destes cursos, a relevância da sua investigação para a sociedade e objectivos do seu estudo (em Inglês);
• Draft do Plano de Trabalho proposto (em Inglês);
• Nome e CV do orientador proposto (se disponível)
• Notas do TOEFL ou IELTS (opcional; factor de valorização)
• Notas do GRE (opcional; factor de valorização)
• Notas do GRE Mathematics Subject Test (opcional; factor de valorização apenas para a área de matemática)

A bolsa só será concedida se o candidato demonstrar ter sido aceite num dos programas de Doutoramento das universidades Portuguesas com parceria estabelecida com o Programa UT Austin|Portugal para as diferentes áreas do mesmo.

As bolsas abrangidas por este edital são concedidas de acordo com o estabelecido no Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação (Lei nº 40/2004, de 18 de Agosto) e ao abrigo do Regulamento da Formação Avançada e Qualificação de Recursos Humanos da FCT (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml).

Financiamento

As bolsas serão financiadas pelo Programa Operacional Potencial Humano do QREN Portugal 2007-2013 e por verbas do Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Ensino Superior (MCTES).

Período do Concurso

O concurso estará aberto a partir do dia 15 de Abril de 2010 até às 24 horas do dia 15 de Maio de 2010.

Candidaturas

Podem candidatar-se a estas bolsas todos os candidatos que satisfaçam os requisitos estabelecidos na alínea 1 do Artigo 17º do Regulamento de Formação Avançada e Qualificação de Recursos Humanos da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).

Aos candidatos a bolsas de Doutoramento, que tenham tido idêntico tipo de bolsa no âmbito de outros programas da responsabilidade da FCT, será contado esse tempo para efeitos da duração máxima da bolsa.

Avaliação

A avaliação terá em conta o mérito e a motivação dos candidatos. Os painéis de avaliação analisarão as candidaturas correspondentes, ponderando os elementos de apreciação e produzindo uma lista ordenada de candidatos aceites.

Entrega de candidaturas

As candidaturas, incluindo submissão de certificados de habilitações e cartas de referência, devem ser submetidas electronicamente através do email utaustinportugal@fct.mctes.pt ou por correio para o secretariado do Programa, a partir do dia 15 de Abril de 2010.

2010 Call for Applications for Doctoral Scholarships

Announcement

In the context of the UT Austin|Portugal Program, the FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology) opens a call for:

PhD Scholarships, taking place in Portugal and at University of Texas, at Austin in the following areas:

• Advanced Digital Media, in the following areas:
  • Production of Audiovisual and Interactive Content,
  • Technology,
  • Journalism,
  • Industry, Publics, and Markets.
     
• Mathematics, in the following areas:
  • Algebra and Number Theory;
  • Applied and Numerical Analysis;
  • Analysis and Partial Differential Equations;
  • Geometry and Topology;
  • Optimization;
  • Stochastic Processes and Mathematical Finance;
  • Dynamical Systems.

Documents required for Submission

• Application Form;
• Complete Résumé with academic and professional experience;
• Transcripts; the transcript must indicate the degrees received and the date awarded;
• Minimum two (2) letters of Recommendation; these may be written by professors or employers;
• Statement of Purpose; explaining the reasons why the candidate wants to apply to one of these degrees, the relevance of his/her investigation to society and the objectives of his/her studies;
• Name and CV of the proposed mentor (if available);
• Proposed work plan draft;
• TOEFL or IELTS Scores (optional, to enhance the application);
• GRE Scores (optional, to enhance the application);
• GRE Mathematics Subject Test Scores (optional, to enhance the application - only for Mathematics)

The scholarship is only given to those candidates that are able to demonstrate that they were accepted on one of the PhD Programs by a Portuguese University involved with the UT Austin|Portugal Program for the different areas.

Scholarships are granted under the conditions stated by the FCT on the Scientific Fellow’s Regulation (Law n. 40/2004, of August 18th) and on the Regulations for Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources of the FCT (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.en).

Financial Support

The scholarships are funded by the QREN Portugal 2007-2013 Operational Program Human Potential and by funds from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education.

Call Duration

The call will be open from April 15th 2010 until midnight May 15th 2010 (Portuguese Time).

Applications

Application to these scholarships is open to all candidates that comply with the requirements established on Article 17 of the Regulation on Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources of the Foundation for Science and Technology.

The candidates to PhD scholarships who have held the same type of scholarship under other FCT Programs will be limited to a maximum number of years of support. The number of years of support will be a sum of the previous and present scholarship.

Evaluation Criteria

The evaluation of candidates will be based on the merit and motivation of the applicants. The evaluation panel will review the applications, analyze the candidate’s merits and motivations, and produce an ordered list of the accepted applicants.
